Bolivia:
Deadline set for energy nationalization
LA
PAZ
Petroleumworld.com, Mar 31, 2008
President Evo Morales, left, has set an April 30 deadline
for Bolivian subsidiaries of British Petroleum, Repsol
and Ashmore Energy International to return to state control.
The three companies each own former parts of the Bolivian
state energy company YPFB that were privatized during the
1990s.
Mr. Morales’s 2006 nationalization of Bolivia’s
oil and gas sector requires that those subsidiaries be
sold back to the state. Mr. Morales announced the deadline
late Wednesday in hopes of completing long-delayed talks
over the sales by May 1.
