Petroperú defines oil blocks to be explored in two weeks

The blocks to be explored by Peru's state oil company Petroperú, in partnership with Brazil's Petrobras and Colombia's Ecopetrol, would be defined in two weeks, Petroperú president Cesar Gutierrez said today.
In December 2007, state oil companies Petroperu, Petrobras and Ecopetrol signed an agreement whereby Ecopetrol has farmed into six Technical Evaluation Agreements (TEAs) in the Marañon Basin.
The two-year agreements were originally signed by 50/50 partners Petrobras and Petroperu in November 2006. Now each company will have a one-third share in the contracts, which cover 57,000 sq km in areas XXVI, XXVII, XXVIII, XXIX, XXX and XXXI in the Amazon jungle bordering Colombia.
Ecopetrol is also partnering with Talisman in an E&P Contract in the Maranon Basin as well as farming into Repsol-YPF's Block 90 in the Ucayali Basin.
Peru is the first country where Ecopetrol has acquired interests beyond its own borders, although now it is also making good on a vow to expand into Brazil.
