Oil output in Brazil jumps 4.5 pct in May from April

Petroleumworld 07 04 2017

Brazil's crude oil output climbed 4.5 percent in May from April, to 2.653 million barrels per day (bpd), oil industry watchdog ANP said on Monday, marking the first month-on-month jump this year as production began on a new platform in the Santos Basin.

The figure was 6.7 percent above production in the same month last year, ANP said.

Brazil reached record production in December, but state-controlled Petroleo Brasileiro SA has said that production in the first months of this year was hit by several maintenance stoppages at the company.

But output was lifted in May by the P-66 platform in the subsalt Santos Basin, where production got under way in the middle of the month. The platform lies in the Lula field, Brazil's biggest producer.

Natural gas production rose 2.1 percent to 105 million cubic meters per day in May compared with April. The figure was 5 percent above the same month in 2016.

Total oil and natural gas production in Brazil reached 3.312 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to the regulator. Of that, 47.5 percent came from subsalt fields.

According to ANP, Petrobras produced 2.067 million bpd in May, 4 percent above April levels.
