Enel wins 100W renewable energy wind plant tender in Argentina
Petroleumworld 12 21 2017
Enel, acting through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Argentina, has been awarded the right to build the 100 MW Pampa wind farm in Round 2 of the renewable energy tender by Argentina's Energy Ministry.
The tender was launched within the framework of RenovAr, the clean energy development plan launched by Ministry, following the extension of the capacity awarded in the tender to over 1800 MW from 1200 MW. Pampa, located in the wind resource-rich Chubut Province, will be the Group's landmark first wind project in the country.
“We are very pleased about the renewable capacity awarded to us in this tender, building on the excellent results already achieved in South America,” said Antonio Cammisecra , Head of Enel's Global Renewable Energies Division Enel Green Power. “This success marks an important step forward for us in a country which is aiming to significantly increase green energy's share in its generation mix. This positive evolution will finally make available the country's abundant resources to a new cycle of investments for the benefit of future sustainable growth.”
Enel is investing nearly 130 million US dollars in the construction of the wind farm. The project, which is expected to enter into operation by the first half of 2020, will be supported by a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the sale of all the renewable energy generated by the plant to Argentina's wholesale electric market management company CAMMESA. Once up and running, Pampa will be able to generate approximately 500 GWh per year.
In Argentina Enel operates around 4.5 GW of thermal and hydro capacity and serves approximately 2.5 million customers in the Buenos Aires area.
