PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley thanked his former Cabinet colleague Wendell Mottley for helping to stabilise the energy sector, since the People's National Movement returned to government in September 2015. Speaking at a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's on Tuesday, Rowley praised Mottley as a patriot. He indicated Mottley had resigned from Cabinet's energy subcommittee. “He is not in the best of health.”
He said Mottley's tremendous wealth of experience, cool and calming demeanour were critical “to bring us to the point where we are now” in the energy sector. Thanks to Mottley, Rowley said the “heavy lifting has been done” and TT is confident going into talks soon with energy multinationals Shell and BP. Recalling discussions he held with those companies in London, the Prime Minister said the first result of that has been a “US$260 million improvement in our earnings.”
Rowley also said his visit to Australia last week, resulted in continued commitment by BHP Billiton to developing the energy sector. Mottley told Newsday he would not say “yea or nay” to anything Rowley said about him in the briefing, including resigning from the energy subcommittee.
