Local drilling contractor Well Services Petroleum Company Limited (Well Services) has announced the safe and successful completion of T&T's first ever west coast natural gas development campaign.

The company drilled and completed a three well campaign for the Iguana field in Block1(a), which is owned and operated by DeNovo Energy Ltd (DeNovo).

The Well Services Rig 110 was the first local jack up rig to be used for a natural gas campaign in T&T, and delivered drilling and completions activities with zero lost time incidents (LTI's) in line with DeNovo's fast- track development plan for the Iguana field.

Rig 110 was also the first rig to install a platform subsea structure in the region, securely setting the Iguana Conductor Supported Platform, driving seven conductors, and completing its first flow back well testing and flaring.

Drawing on over 50 years' experience, this campaign highlights the capabilities of well services as a T&T drilling contractor to be world-class and internationally competitive in its delivery of an intricate drilling and completions campaign.

Operations Manager, Neil McCartney said: “The Well Services team was able to work quickly and clinically to ensure that all drilling targets were reached, despite numerous technical challenges due to the complicated subsurface structure of the field. Success was achieved using a fully local rig crew who displayed sound expertise, timely decision making and commitment to safe and onetime delivery.

“Our focus on safety and collaboration throughout the campaign was evident on the rig, with our service providers and DeNovo, and we are proud of our team for their demonstration of industry excellence.”

Managing Director, Anthony Brash, speaking on behalf of the company and its project partners, said:“We are thankful for DeNovo's demonstrated confidence in us as the leading drilling company in Trinidad and Tobago.”

He added: “DeNovo's choice of a local rig and contractor to deliver this gas campaign augurs well for the sustainability of our local industry. Well Services is pleased to have collaborated with a new, local Upstream operator, to deliver much needed natural gas into the local network.”

Over the years, Well Services has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to working with all upstream companies in country and within the region to deliver competitive solutions for developing hydrocarbon reserves and enhancing the global competitiveness of T&T and the Caribbean.

“The Rig 110 underwent safety and integrity upgrades prior to starting the Iguana development.
