Troubled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Wednesday called for American companies, including oil producers, to continue investing in his country's economy, also expressing willingness to meet with the opposition to resolve the country's crisis, he said in an interview with Russian Ria Novosti news agency.
"I'm telling American investors in oil, gas, tourism, technology, gold, diamond spheres - you're welcome despite strained relationship with [US President Donald] Trump. Invest and work in Venezuela," Maduro was quoted as saying.
"This tension should not be allowed to prevent American investments in Venezuela," he said, adding that over 3,000 American companies are registered in Venezuela, including oil major Chevron.
The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on Venezuela's state-run PDVSA oil producer, in a move aimed at keeping oil revenues from the Maduro region and, ultimately, transferring them to the fledging opposition government of Juan Guaido should he become president.
The US, Canada and some other western and Latin American countries support Guaido, while Russia, China, Turkey, Iran does not recognize the opposition leader.
Maduro also pledged Venezuela to meet its financial obligations towards Russia and China in full. Both countries invested billions of dollars into the Venezuelan economy, including in oil, recently.
"Venezuela pays," he said, adding that Caracas hopes for China and Russia support in respect of Venezuela's economic development.
Maduro also spoke about the possibility to invite international mediators to the talks with the opposition. He would like them "to support the dialog in Venezuela," the report said.
