Bolivia's President Evo Morales has named foreign oil companies
archi enemy Andrés Solíz Rada as the country's new
hydrocarbons minister, replacing Mauricio Medinacelli, a
former top hydrocarbons ministry official told Petroleumworld.
Soliz
is a lawyer and a former senator and congress representative representing
the late marxist party-October group, and the indigenous marxist
conscience homeland party( Partido Indigenista Marxista Conciencia
Patria).
Solíz
Rada is also a columnist for Bolivian newspaper El Diario (La
Paz). He has written several books and papers on the topic of
hydrocarbons in which he has advocate the nationalization of all
foreign companies, the former official added.
Furthermore,
Soliz was part of the transition hydrocarbons committee of Morales'
administration.
The
most important issues Soliz will face is the issue of natural
gas exports and prices to Argentina and Brazil, and the migration
of contracts held by foreign oil companies to new contracts under
the controversial new hydrocarbons law.
The
problem of domestic shortages of diesel and liquefied petroleum
gas (LPG), is also a pressing problem for Soliz.
Morales
has promised to nationalize the hydrocarbons industry and strengthen
state oil firm YPFB, issues that he highlighted on its inaugural
address to the Nation on Sunday.
Soliz
said on Tuesday , that It is expected that Morales address the
nation in the next few days explaining its Hydrocarbons nationalization
policy.
