Mexico and Venezuela on Wednesday said they were on watch after the
Saudi branch of Al-Qaeda called for attacks on installations that
supply oil to the United States.
Mexico's Tourism Minister Rodolfo Elizondo said the information was
"worrisome ... if it is confirmed."
"Everything that involves security has an impact on tourism,"
he added.
The Mexican president's office did not immediately issue a reaction.
In Venezuela, Interior Minister Pedro Carreno said security forces
were at work to guarantee oil industry installations.
"Venezuela has its intelligence units set to investigate to guarantee
.. strategic resources," he said.
"Oil interests in all regions (of the world) from which the United
States benefits should be hit, not only in the Middle East,"
the group said in an article in its online monthly magazine, Sawt
al-Jihad (the Voice of Jihad).
Mexico, the world's sixth largest oil producer, exports most of its
oil to the neighboring United States.
