At
the last minute, Trinidad and Tobago was requested not to attend
the South America Energy Summit Power. Prime minister of Trinidad
and Tobago, Patrick Manning, had to suspend the trip to attend
the Power Summit that was celebrated in the island of Margarita,
in Venezuela.
According
to an official notice of the Trinidad government notice, emitted
Monday, the Venezuelan Secretary of State sent a diplomatic note
Sunday to Trinidad and Tobago, Foreign Minister Arnold Piggott,
in which he indicates that "the authorities of Venezuela did
not manage to finalize the suitable adjustments successful so that
Trinidad and Tobago attends the Power Summit".
An
official source source told Petroleumworld that the cancellation
of PM visit was due to the The Secretariat of the Summit that decided
that the Summit was only for head of state.
Manning
was invited personally by the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez,
the Summit organizer during a visit to Venezuela the last month,
in which they signed a treaty frame on unification of hydrocarbon
deposits to explore and to operate jointly the gas outside coast.
Chávez
on televised transmission of the dignitaries meeting during the
visit from Manning to Venezuela said " the prime minister
showed his interest to participate to us in the South American
Summit and we, like country host, invited it to share with the
South American colleagues the subject of the energy".
At
a question by Petroleumworld this Tuesday when finalizing the summit
on the absence of Manning in the event, Chávez responded: "To
knowing", shrinking of shoulders.
Chávez
announced that it would visit Trinidad and Tobago in the next months
to sign the definitive agreements of the unification of hydrocarbons
fields.
Manning
described the trip as "vital" for the interests of Trinidad
and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago is the main gas producer in South America and provides
75% of the liquid natural gas imports of the United States.
