The National Gas Company (NGC) announced yesterday that it will
be implementing a programme of restoration activities for roads
and infrastructure impacted on by the recently Cross-Island
Pipeline (CIP), as planned and pledged.
Before
the construction of the 76.5 kilometre CIP, NGC had committed
itself to restoring roads used during construction after the
project's completion. At the start of the project, several roads
and bridges that were slated to be used along the route were
also upgraded to accommodate the heavy vehicular traffic and
other traffic needs associated with the project.
With
the completion of CIP and its subsequent commissioning in November
2005, NGC initiated a road repair programme, in collaboration
with regional corporations and borough councils.
However,
these restorative works which were due to begin at the start
of 2006, have been delayed due to the inclement and abnormal
weather which we have been experiencing, NGC said.
