Atlantic
LNG received its first visit by a President of T&T when
Professor George Maxwell Richards visited the company’s
Point Fortin facility on February 17.
During
the visit, the President was briefed on several aspects of Atlantic’s
operations and community relations programmes.
Among
aspects discussed was the company’s safety record, which
on the Train 4 project to date is some 14.7 million hours worked
without a lost time accident.
Richards
was also advised that Atlantic’s Osha rate in 2005 was
0.14 per 200,000 hours, the lowest in the company’s history
and way ahead of the top ten per cent of production facilities
in international industry with low Osha rates.
In
the area of Atlantic’s community relations, the President
was told that construction had begun on a $5.5 million swimming
pool complex in Coronation Park, Egypt Village. This complex
is being built on behalf of the Point Fortin Borough Corporation
and will be completed by September.
Upon
completion, management of the pool complex will be turned over
to the Point Fortin Borough Corporation.
The
President, who has roots in Point Fortin from his days as a
chemical engineer at the former Shell refinery, was also taken
on a tour of the Southern Gardens housing development, an $18
million development being constructed by the National Housing
Authority to accommodate residents being relocated from Atlantic
LNG’s fence-line communities, Point Ligoure and New Lands.
The
relocated residents will receive houses in the Southern Gardens
development free of charge. This relocation is now in its final
stages.
The
occasion was marked by Richards unveiling a special plaque commemorating
his historic visit.
He
was also presented with a special Train 4 memento—two
crystal mugs. This presentation was made at a luncheon held
in the President’s honour at Atlantic LNG’s Clifton
Court conference and meeting room facility.
Guests
at the luncheon included Point Fortin Mayor St Clair Natta,
members of Atlantic’s community council, a cross-section
of Point Fortin’s business community, members of Atlantic’s
senior management team and representatives of the company’s
shareholder companies BG, BP, Suez, Repsol and the National
Gas Company.
